A Wedding to Remember
Terri Lynn Almond and Wayne Jolly were planning a beautiful wedding. Everything almost ready and, so far, there had been no problems. But, Hurricane Hugo decided to go west instead of east, hitting Charlotte on Thursday before Terri and Wayne were to get married on Saturday. It was a terrible storm. Trees were down, houses were torn apart, the power was out all over Charlotte. Try as we may, Terri was not going to move her wedding date. She was getting married on the date she had planned. Well, everyone began working. Since there was no power, the wedding was moved from the main sanctuary to the chapel. The chapel was smaller and had lots and lots of stained glass windows. Members of the church pulled together to move tress (big ones) and to clear the churchyard and parking lot of as much debris as they could. Now the lady that was making Terri's wedding cake had a tree come through her kitchen window, so she wasn't going to be able to make the wedding cake. What is a wedding without the cake! Beth and Jackie put their heads together (this could only mean one of two things, either there was going to be trouble or money was going to be spent). Off they set on a mission to find a wedding cake. As luck would have it, there was one grocery store open. They were only letting a few people at a time in since they had no power. After standing in line for what seemed like forever, they were finally let in the store. As they entered what appeared in front of them bigger than any cake they had ever seen.....A beautiful wedding cake. Here they go over to the Bakery Department. Yes, there is aÏhappy ending to this story. Terri and Wayne's wedding was absolutely beautiful. There were lots and lots of candles and the stained glass windows made it even more beautiful. And, yes, they had a beautiful wedding cake. In the pictures you will see Wayne and Terri cutting the beautiful cake...but look closely....the cake is Styrofoam. The beautiful wedding cake in the grocery store was a display cake. But it sure looked good in pictures, and the guests, they never knew the difference, for they were eating regular cakes. We told Terri she had to name her first born Hugo.....well, we didn't get a Hugo, but we did get a little hurricane named Jessica Lauren Jolly.
