George Adam Lefler - Mae Duschka Ranson

George Adam Lefler

Take note of the covered well house.  This picture was made at the farm house of George Adam Lefler and clara Taylor Lefler.  The farm was located under the railroad tracks in Badin, NC.

I remember as a child visiting my grandparents each summer with mother.   We rode the train to Badin from where we live in Maryland and Virginia.  In the summer, I remember the well being covered with Morning Glorieds planted by my grandmother.

To the left of the well house up a dirt path was a two seated privy outhouse, very neatly kept.

The farm house was large, the kitchen was separate from the Main house, which had a poarch, several bedrooms, living room , dining area and a long hall that extended to the kitchen.  To the right of the house was the smoke house which grandaddy kept well stocked.  Out from the house was the barn in which he kept his buggy and horsed.  Many miles from the house was the farming area and his hog pens.   I remember riding with him to the farm in his buggy.  This was the highlight of our visits.

Grandmother Lefler raised many flowers along the fence row, remembered specially were her Sunflowers and Princess Feathers of all colors.  But the rememberance of the Morning Glories on the well stands out in my mind.  The well had an old Oak bucket on a rope from which the water was drawn out of the well.
